“Pyrgos” means tower in Greek

The story

Pyrgos Taverna opened in 2016 on Szabadság út in Budaörs, opposite the high school. The idea was simple: to open a Greek restaurant that serves not the tourist-friendly, localised version, but what a Greek family eats on a Sunday.

The kitchen

The gyros meat goes on the spit fresh every day. Feta, olives, retsina and Metaxa come from Greece. The béchamel for the moussaka, the filo for the galatobureko and the tzatziki are made on site every morning.

Two modes, one kitchen

At lunchtime most of our guests are in a hurry, so on weekdays we run self-service between 11 am and 3 pm. After 3 pm and at weekends we slow down: à la carte service, Greek music, a wine list and unhurried dinners…
